Here is a canon confirmation Kaworu is not interested in women. I am aware the term “opposite sex” is a bad and cissexist (and erasive of nb genders ) statement. I am a nonbinary person myself, but the person who wrote this guidebook more than likely didn’t know about nb genders. Kaworu is gay.

nonbinary people can be gay, and “kaworu can’t be gay because angels don’t have genders,” is something homophobic nge fans on sites like evageeks have been saying for years to deny Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship.
What if Shinji was female in one loop? Would Kaworu still love her?
if in an official nge canon, Shinji was female and Kaworu still loved her, headcanoning Kaworu as pan (or poly/bi) would be okay. This has never happened, so it is not okay.
and another thing, “would you love your partner if they were of a different gender,” is something that gets said to gay people a lot by homophobic people and is very similar to the “why are “””monosexuals”””” only attracted to one gender” posts on here. the fact that you are using a statement said by homophobes is very alarming.
People saying Kaworu is gay makes me uncomfortable
if a character being gay makes you uncomfortable you are a homophobe. It’s that simple.

Everyone in nge apart from Mari, Shinji, Maya and Kaworu has an unconfirmed sexuality. Headcanon them as pan. You can have representation without taking representation away from another group.
and finally, the fact that an extremely popular anime character is canonly gay is huge. Why do you want to take that representation away from gay people so badly?
